CALORIES…good or bad?
CALORIES…good or bad? What are they and why do we need them?
If we’re getting scientific, calories are “the amount of heat needed to raise the temperature of 1g of water by 1 degree celsius”. In relation to food this means a calorie measures the amount of energy in the food and beverages that we consume. So basically, all the food we eat becomes the fuel that runs our bodies and the amount of energy in a product will be written as calories on a nutrition label.
So, guess what! Calories are NOT something that should be scary! We NEED calories and the energy they provide to live and stay healthy. We want to reallt focus on WHERE our calories are coming from.
Healthy food choices such as nuts, seeds, and whole grains provide calories, but they also contain important nutrients such as vitamins and minerals that are needed for the body!
Other foods (ex. refined sugars and bleached white flour) provide what we call “empty calories”. This means that they provide calories, but have no other nutritional value!
This is why at #JJK we make sure that every treat has a source of protein, fibre and healthy fat. We want you fuelling your body with natural & high quality ingredients instead of refined sugars and empty calories.
So, we challenge you to take a look at ingredients lists on products you’re buying. See where your protein, fibre, fats are coming from and if there are any added fillers, refined sugars or crazy ingredients you can’t pronounce!
At JJK we make sure to have our ingredient lists right out for you to see! It is important to us that everything is made from the best ingredients and you know exactly what’s going into your body!
