Did You Know?!

Did you know👇🏻

At #JJK we do not use any gums in our baked goods!

Have you heard of gums (like xanthan gum or guar gum)!? Gum doesn’t really sound like something that belongs in treats…so what is it exactly🤔?

Gums are a popular food additive that’s commonly added to foods as a thickener or stabilizer!

Xanthan gum is made from allowing sugars, derived from corn, to interact with a mold producing bacteria called Xanthomonas campestris. This creates a slimy substance which is then dried up and made into powder form. The powder can be added to packaged products such as toothpaste, gluten free baking, ice cream, cosmetics and even industrial products like paint, cleaning supplies and adhesive.

It’s also commonly used in gluten free & vegan baking and is found in a lot of packaged foods! Take a look at your fridge, cupboard or pantry foods and see if they have any gums added.

Although it’s safe to eat, we should actually try to MINIMIZE our intake of these gums, as too much can cause digestive problems including increased gas, bloating and upset stomachs. This might make sense for so many individuals! It’s a sneaky ingredient you would never know upsets your stomach!

At JJK we want to provide you with treats that make you feel your best self and you can feel good with! This is why we NEVER use additives like Xanthan Gum in our treats…only natural & whole ingredients!

Just another reason to come try JJK’s desserts! Happy #wellnesswednesday💙
