A term that is becoming increasingly popular, but what is it?!

The Keto diet, short for Ketogenic, is a very low carbohydrate diet that offers many health benefits!

For a short definition, it involves reducing carbohydrate consumption to very minimal and replacing it with fat! When you reduce your carbs it puts your body into a metabolic state called ketosis.

This is when your body switches its primary energy course from carbs to fat! Since your brain typically uses carbs for energy, it will take fat and convert it to ketones in the liver. By reducing carbohydrate consumption the body becomes incredibly efficient at burning fat for energy, causing weight loss. This can also cause a huge reduction in blood sugar levels while boosting insulin sensitivity, which is beneficial for those with type 2 diabetes or prediabetes.
